Do you accept the ecumenical creeds?
Yes – of course! The Reformed churches accept and use the Nicene Creed, the Apostles’ Creed and the Athanasian Creed (Quicumque).
The Reformers Luther and Calvin didn’t want to start a new church or a new religion. They wanted to reform the Roman Catholic church by going back to the sources:
– the Word of God (the Bible)
– the teachings of the Ecumenical Councils and the Church fathers as far as they are clearly derived from the Bible.
Reformed churches in Western Europe mostly recite the Apostles’ Creed during the worship services, but also the Nicene Creed is often used. In the Reformed churches in Ukraine we typically recite the Nicene Creed.
